Holt Korea’s “Home Coming” Program

Holt Children’s Services, Inc has launched Holt Home-Coming program in 2009 to provide support for Korean adoptees returning to their Motherland.  The purpose is to help making the transition and adjustment phase easier for adult adoptees who plan on staying in Korea for more than three months.

Any grown-up Korean adoptee who desires to participate in the program will have an opportunity to learn about Korea and Korean language throughout 12-week program. 
Participants will be able to receive a stipend by teaching English for ten to twelve hours each week to children and teens at the organizations in Mapo district.

Our objective is to facilitate opportunities for adoptees to have better understanding of their Motherland while building network with other adoptees and native Koreans.

IIIHR International Korean Adoptee Program at Inje University

IIHR (Inje Institute for International Human Resources) International Korean Adoptee Program is now accepting applications for its 2011 Spring Semester (2nd of March to 10th of June) and its 2011 Fall Semester (29th of August to 9th of December).

As part of Inje University (located in Gimhae, Gyungnam Province), the IIIHR program was created as a way for International Korean Adoptees to return to Korea and learn more about Korean language, history, cooking, and culture.  The program was founded in 2001 and has hosted over 180 Korean Adoptees from all around the world.  Many AAAW members have completed the IIIHR program over the years.

2011 Spring and Fall semesters are 16-weeks-long each. The tuition fee of $600 USD covers classes, housing, cafeteria meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and day trips to cultural and historical sites for the whole semester.

The classes are approximately 10 students in size and taught in English. Students will live on campus with a Korean roommate, attend classes, and have access to Inje University’s student organizations, weight training gyms, library, and computers.

Korea University International Summer Campus 2010

Korea University International Summer Campus
June 28th – August 5th, 2010

Korea University, one of leading universities in Korea and a major sponsor of the IKAA Gathering 2010, has realized their vision of an International Summer Campus and is launching the Pre-College Campus Program (2010 will mark their inaugural program), designed for high school graduates to gain valuable experiences with international campus life and an academic advantage through specially tailored pre-college courses.

Eligibility: Domestic/Overseas high school graduates admitted to an overseas university (Separate assessment will be made to select outstanding current high school students)

Program Dates: Monday, June 28 – Thursday, August 5, 2010 (Classes meet four days a week: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs)

Fees: Tuition KRW 3,500,000 (Application Fee KRW 100,000)

Core Courses: Writing and Presentation Skills (required), Literature Humanities, Culture and Human Behavior, Understanding of Science (students choose one of the remaining three core courses)

Elective Courses: Introduction to Microeconomics, Statistics, Introduction to Management, Introduction to Marketing, World History, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Calculus I, General Chemistry I, Introduction to American Politics, Contemporary Korean Society

In addition to the regular course schedules, students will have unique opportunities available to them, including:

  • Attending special lectures presented by students and renowned scholars from prestigious universities from around the world
  • The possibility of an internship with public corporations, large enterprises, or educational institutions, presenting students with the chance to experience Korean corporate culture and business practices
  • Weekend Day Trips: Possibilities include ROK Marine Corps Camp, DMZ, Folk Village, Hanok Village, B-Boy, Nanta, Jump
